home remedies for sinus infection?

You should certainly see a doctor,

but also a good thing I do is massage the area across your cheeks and down the sides of your nose with lavender oil. be careful it can affect some people's skin, so you can dilute it with a base oil.

I also sleep with a lavender sachet close, it really does help. Butit is not a substitute for medication if you do have an infection, get some antibiotics.

But the lavender will help, and makes you feel better.

I just got back from seeing the Dr. for a sinus infection. She gave me an antibiotic, and said to treat the symptoms with Sudafed (the regular, GOOD kind, not the 12 hr or reformulated stuff) and Tylenol. Here in IL, we have to get the real Sudafed from behind the pharmacy counter. It's regulated because of all the meth heads that use it to make drugs. DH calls it the "War on Cold Sufferers."

I had been using Tylenol Cold and lots of Vicks Vapo Rub for almost a week, and I could barely breathe at night. I can already tell a difference from the Sudafed. The Dr. also suggested gargling with salt water.

If you have a Walmart or Walgreens nearby, call and ask if they carry "Batherapy" brand of Bath products.

It Comes in salts and liquid, in Origional (spa style) Cold Therapy (with menthol) , Lavender and a few other formulas...

Works GREAT for achy muscles, and stuffy heads...
plus the lavender is VERY relaxing!

Runs aprox. $5 a jar/bottle and lasts quite a while!

i use steam to thin all that yucky stuff, also drinking hot things. I just read recently that when you blow your nose you should do it one side at a time, it will help prevent stuff from one side infecting the other. I also like good old fashioned Vicks Vapo rub to help in breathing, my youngest calls it stinky nose stuff but asks for it to be put on.

I also have flannel packets with rice inside, it microwave them for a minute then lay it across my eyes and cheek bones. It helps with sinus pressure.

I get bad sinus infections 2-3 times a year due to allegies and diabetes.

Even if you aren't diabetic, avoid all sugar when you have a sinus infection, as it makes the infection worse.

my neice was hopitalized for a sinus infection my sister in law was trying to ignore. If it's an infection anti-biotics are needed.
they told my sister in law that it could have lead to death

Ok, I'll go if I'm no better by Sat. It didn't start until yesterday evening, then I had gobs of stuff this morning. It feels much better this afternoon with all the flushing.

I have been shovelling hay, compost in the garden, and cleaning the corrals so it's probably from debris in my sinuses.

I could get addicted to flushing my sinuses. They feel good afterward. I never had tried adding baking soda to the saline before and that makes a big difference.

If you use Vicks Vapor Rub, try putting it on thick on the soles of your feet and putting socks on. Do this right before you go to bed.

I did this with my daughter for her last cold and it really helped to open her sinus up to breath. I had been putting it on her chest and after about the 3rd day, she started to get a rash. So I switched to her feet. Seamed to work.

You can flush with salt water as often as you like, I do it twice a day when I think I am coming down with something. I haven't had a full blown cold/sickness in, I can not remember!
So, get your netti pot out and start flushing!
Also, if you are blowing alot and your nasal canals are dry, try aloe with sea salts and a cue tip swab.
Hope you feel better.

Also, if you can't do the netti pot (for whatever reason my nasal passage just isn't shaped right for it and never draws the liquid), they offer a squirt bottle version. This cleans out all the junk, so long as you can breathe through your nostrils at the time you attempt to use it. If I start to feel the least bit iffy, I use it right away, and will repeat usage for at least the next two days.

Sending get well vibes your way.
