I know some people who are homeless by choice. They choose not to live in any type of housing even though they work or are able to qualify for housing assistance. Price of housing is so high here in California, plus the weather is good most of the time, so they choose to live out in tents, their cars, or on the beach.

Sadly, the cops will probably just take them a few miles down the road and release them.

We often have homeless people living in our alley. We only put out the garbage the morning of the pick up, otherwise they go through it and scatter it all over. They make a terrible mess. And we never go to the alley alone or unarmed.

There is a shelter about three quarters of a mile away, but they will not stay there because they cannot do drugs there.

Always lock your car. Otherwise they will sleep in it, or get sick in it or worse use it as a toilet.

Remove fruit and garden produce before it becomes eatable. It is better to ripen it in the house than let them eat it out of your garden. This constitutes an attractive nuisance, and they could sue you if they happened to get hurt on your property.

Never hang clothes out to dry. If you do, someone else will be wearing them.

Remove the wheels from your wheelbarrow and garden carts, otherwise they will be stolen. Never leave anything made of aluminum or copper out. It will be stolen in no time.

Never leave the house alone. Always make sure someone is there with the lights and TV on. Keep a firearm handy.

Never give them anything. They will try to prey on your religious feelings seeking "Christian Charity." This marks you as a sucker, and they will remember you the next time they need a fix. You will be lucky if you survive the ordeal.

Never let the kids play outside alone, and always keep your eyes on them when they are outside.

Getting rid of homeless people is almost impossible. The cops won't do anything. It my fear that one night someone will come home three sheets to the wind and run over them and their mattress in the alley.

Good luck, I sure hope those two don't come back and burn your house or sheds.

Naw, but the mean streets in Montana just probably can't compare. Everything Rufus said is true of 80-90% of the homeless in my area...

I am so glad that you were able to have them removed. It sounds like it was an adventure to say the least. My question is, will the pig get a pardon?

This thread has been a real eye opener for me. I know we have homeless persons in the area where i work. Thankfully, we do not have homeless persons where i live. There are so many different opinions expressed in this one thread concerning the homeless that I have been pondering on this thread for a couple of days now. The only homeless people I have ever met was a man who had just gotten divorced and lost everything. He was staying at the homeless shelter, rode a bike to work, and was saving his money to get an apartment. We walked together and talked for almost an hour. I was on my way to court that day, and I will never forget the experience of meeting him. I wanted to take him to lunch and sit down and talk, but knew that court would make for a long day. The most recent person, I have actually never met, but my MIL has. She too is working to try to improve her situation.

As a Christian, I have always wanted to get involved in some way helping the homeless. After reading through this thread, I still feel this way, but will definitely be more aware of those that want to help themselves, and those that do not.

I have met homeless families,some even had newborns,toddlers and teens....There are even homeless military woman and men who come back from fighting overseas and have lost everything.
There are career homeless,then there are the homeless who fell down and need help back up....
