I've looked them up and they seem to be worth a try. My only concern is will the chickens, who have only ever drank out of a pan, be able to figure it out in time to avoid sickness? Anyone care to share their experiences on switching waterers?

I got my first flock (4 hens) on Friday morning at 10am. I had no other water source in the coop for them. By lunchtime 3 of them all had it figured out, and the last one was drinking successfully by 5/6pm. One of the hens is a 1 year old bantam silkie, two of them are 9 week old australorps, and the last one is a 9 week old buff orpington.
