Hi,
I don't want to use commercial feed for my ducks and so want to make up my own. I plan to get ducks in a few weeks. I will use un-medicated chick starter for while they are young, and then switch to a homemade feed for laying. Can anyone give me a recipe for duck feed? I am not finding much online. Simple, easy-to-get ingredients will be appreciated. Also, I am on a tight budget and can't afford to spend a ton of money on this.
Thanks

I had planned on doing the same thing but decided it was too difficult to get all the necessary feeds. Many came in LARGE amounts.

I used the book Storey's Guide to raising ducks as it has some great info it. I beleive Metzers Farms has soom good feed info on their website.

Good luck, and post your results. I would still like to make my own. Right now I settled on some organic feed I found on eFowl.com

You need to start with learning the nutritional needs of ducks, I prefer Nutrition and Management of Ducks by Scott and Dean, but it is out-of-print. My next would be the NRC guidelines. You also need to learn the nutrient content of the different ingredients.

Most mills use one of several log-linear least cost programs which uses the ingredient costs and nutrient content, and formulates a diet that meets the nutrient contents you define for the least-cost.

I doubt you can formulate a cheaper diet.
