Homemade flock block recipes

It won't be nice and hard if you don't bake it. And I would think that more than just a LITTLE PNB would be hard for chickens to deal with.

I am going to try a version for guineas. I just got my first ever Postal delivery of Guinea Keets. From someone right here at BYC. for the babies I think some high pro Game bird starter crumbles with scrambled egg and baby grit at first but then later on adding in White millet and maybe some small dried meal worms. With very little binder.

Then as they get bigger some grit and bigger seedies and bigger wormies then work on the whole cooking and turning it into a hard block. That's when it will be a good tool for me because I want to keep the Guineas in a coop/run setup designed for enrichment.

These guys grow FAST so I probably will be changing the recipe every week. The goal at first is high protein boost to supplement.

I purchase commercial ones, but maybe I'll try baking one sometime. Just wanted to offer an alternative-- serving their favorite treats on cinder blocks! Rat-a-tat-tat! I'm using this now for my juveniles to get their sharp little beaks under control.

But I must now use my spent grains and other chicken stuff and make several of these for the chickens. I just love chicken people

I made some today! One set in a muffin tin, one loaf pan, and one round cake pan. My idea is to use these as feed which is why i used feed and seed.

2 cups each of:
flock raiser crumbles
16% protein pellets
boss
(purina)scratch

I soaked 3 slices of bread in milk and eggs. When soggy I used my hands to squish up the bread. Mixed everything together and pressed into the pans. Baked at 350 until golden brown. They turned out pretty well. I put the muffin sized cake in a shallow bowl of water for the ducklings and they gobbled it up happily. Twice! The hens enjoyed pecking at it too.
Things I will change for next time:
gelatin instead of baking or microwave
and I will add some oats and floating catfish pellets, cat food or dog food.

I like the idea of using gelatin because it is 100% protein.
