As a matter of fact, I am teaching the youth (both boys and girls) on Wed. night how to make this bread. We will be making bread, butter, and strawberry jam.

Okay all you Gump Bread connoisseurs I need some help here. I have scanned this thread and have seen where you have made the bread and stuffed it with different things. We have our annual sale coming up and I usually have a big crowd to feed. One night I usually get a spiral ham, cook a beef brisket, and put rolls out to make sandwiches. I was curious about making the gump bread stuffing it with something to make it part of the meal/or make it into a large sandwich. Is this possible?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I make the "stromboli" stuffed with mushrooms, cheese, mini pepperoni, pizza sauce etc...but we cut it in strips and dip in the left over sauce that is warm..

I have fixed it stuffed with thin roast beef and swiss cheese..but serve with french onion soup to dip again needs to be warm...??

how about making large deli type subs with different cold cuts..??

Is there any way to tell if your yeast is still good, before using it? Like something you can mix with it and if it has a reaction or not, ???
Thanks!
Id love to make this bread, but I am unsure if my yeast is viable... help!

After reading this thread over and over and over, I couldn't stand it any more. As someone who has never made anything beyond pre-made frozen bread dough, I had to make it. It is very good bread. The taste and texture are awesome. And the crust is so soft!! I put it into 2 9" loaf pans. As I was chowing down on the first slice, plans for cinnamon rolls, hamburger buns and others were dancing in my head.. THANK YOU for sharing! Here is a photo of my first attempt.
