Homemade hay! Do you?

Yes, some will eat it freshly cut. My silkies are in an A frame.

Yesterday, I just pushed large clumps against the wire on the bottom and they had a smorgasbord!

I did the same thing with the cochins and it is still there, go figure! LOL

If you have a lot of land and don't want to be weird like me[I raked it off 1/3 acre using a 8in hay fork, lol] and have a bag for your mower, just use that and then spread the grass in a smaller and easier area to work with. Too thick a layer and you will need to turn/fluff/separate more often.

I got 3 Lowes large moving boxes full! They are stuffed to the brim, even go up to the top flaps. I jumped in to try to smoosh it to make it all fit.

My hens LOVE having long dried grass as nest material, and so do I. It makes a nice little hollow for them to lay in, and they cant kick it all out of the nest because it tangles together really well.

I wish I'd seen this post yesterday. We've had so much ran the backyard was a good 8+ inches tall. we finally had a chance to mow it. Well, lots of summer left to go.
