Oh, the lid you saw is protecting the wall from the heat of the lamp so it can’t accidentally catch on fire

Just wondering why, you are misting the eggs 5 times per day?I mist them five times a day(my mom mists them twice while I’m at school) as well as having a dish of water right next to them.
I've read they require misting (higher humidity) but never incubated duck eggs.Just wondering why, you are misting the eggs 5 times per day?
Yes, just not 5 times per day. Misting is to mimic waterfowl hen going off nest to eat/drink defecate take a swim and come back to nest wet. So, misting with cool off period best mimics real broody waterfowl hen incubating. Some do swear by it, but others don't bother with it. Just wondering why @silkiemother is misting 5 times per day as I have only known it to be done no more than once per day.I've read they require misting (higher humidity) but never incubated duck eggs.
I'm planning on making a diy incubator out of an igloo cooler in a couple weeks but haven't started yet.( I just added a rooster 8 weeks ago) I don't know that I'd be interested in using this method or not but we'll see! It is fascinating to watch!Yes, just not 5 times per day. Misting is to mimic waterfowl hen going off nest to eat/drink defecate take a swim and come back to nest wet. there is a blood island, and a blood ring. A small ring of blood is the start of development, a thick ring of blood in later stages is from veins breaking downThree of the mistings aren’t directly on the eggs, it’s just to raise the humidity since it’s not an inclosed incubator. I only actually mist the eggs themselves when I wake up and when I head to bed so about 12 hours in between each misting. Oh and curious, what does a small blood ring on day two signify by the way? I was checking to make sure none of them had anything weird since I forgot to do that right before I set em and noticed that two of them had blood rings that wasn’t there when I stored them
she might mean blood island, not ring. Day 2 is too early for veining, it cant be a blood ring...Blood rings mean they died after starting..
