Homemade incubator for button quail!

How's the hatch going? Are they on Lockdown now? I just got my 1st & 2nd Quail egg today so I need to start getting all the different items so I can make one to hatch some of these Quail.

It's the first day of lockdown today. I candled on day 10 and 8 eggs were good. All others were either infertile or had cracks in them, there were sadly 2 early quitters. I water candled an egg too. U can check out the video if you'd like :) here's the link

Your homebator looks like mine!

Few things I learned after my first hatch:

--> the hatching eggs should have an entire space free of anything that they may slip into / get into - a newly hatched quail chick got stuck behind a little water tray I had with a sponge and couldn't get out - I couldn't take him out because 4 other eggs were pipping and I knew I was gonna shrink wrap them if I tried to save the chick stuck behind the tray. He sadly died within minutes!

--> I had a PC fan which was secure behind a chicken wire mesh. We couldn't raise the humidity higher than 45% no matter how many trays and water we added. My husband by fluke figured out that all we needed to do was turn off the fan, add hot water to the trays and voila! Humiditiy from 45% to 70% in no time! Humidity went as high as 85% that we had to crack open the lid!

I got 4 out of 8 to hatch. They had all developed but sadly 4 died before pipping

Well that's Kewl. I have gotten less than a 10% hatch in my Store Bought Styrofoam Incubator and you got a 50% hatch from a Homemade one. That's GREAT!!!
I had 1 out of 13 hatch on my 1st try, and 2 of 32 on 2nd and Zero of 12 on my 3rd try.
I'm going to find a fan to install in it sometime and see how much of a better hatch I can get out of it.
