Well if I end up seeing worms expelled in poop I think that will be some evidence that Pumpkin seeds may work. Would it not?
No it wouldn't.
All I'm interested in here is to try and prevent people reading posts like these and trying to use pumpkin seeds or other concocted remedies to rid a chicken of a possibly harmful worm load.
There is nothing cool about this type of misinformation.

I think your over stepping your role here alittle bit. Nothing here was said that Pumpkin seeds is a dewormer at anytime!! I unlike you just criticizing am doing something about it. Do your own study showing it doesn’t work which would be more helpful. Your not understanding this thread if you think I said that Pumpkin seeds are a dewormer. At no time was it ever said. Actually if you see the results of this morning it is actually the opposite. So before passing judgment, how about you reserve your comments for some other place they maybe needed. The title of the thread clearly says.
Homemade worming treatment!(Maybe?)
So again somehow you think I said it was a wormer and that is incorrect!

For real.....tape worm segments are the most likely type to be seen in poop.

Most other worms require trained eyes and a microscope to detect in the droppings.

That is what a fecal float is.....a microscopic check if the droppings.

Without a control (fecal float before meds) and a result (fecal float after meds) there is no way to know if the meds were effective.
I agree but round warms are easily seen in poop. Which I believe is one of the most common worms chickens have

With fall time upon us which brings with it Pumpkin Season I figure I would use it to test Pumpkin seeds worming effectiveness.
Above is the first line in your initial post. There are in the rest of your posts a number of other references to using pumpkin seeds as a wormer.
I have tried to explain that to most a wormer is a compound that will rid a chicken of worms.
If you are interested in using pumpkin seeds as a health enhancement for a chickens gut then perhaps you should adjust your posts to reflect this.

I am not a vet but.....it is my understanding that if worms (tape, round or other) are seen by the naked eye in chicken droppings the worm load is heavy.

A heavy worm load is not something to take lightly. It can kill the birds long before any home remedy could be proven or disproven.

But hey....if you want to poke around looking in chicken poop for something that may or may not be there, go for it.

It clearly states testing it as a wormer. It does not say it is a potential wormer. So again. I think most people refer to Pumpkin seeds as a potential wormer not a gut health seed. If they did there would be no need for testing as it is pretty much known that Pumpkins and Pumpkin seeds are extremely healthy but that is not what is in question here. Just because I use the word wormer or worming it does not say anywhere that it is one. Anyone reading can clearly see I never said it’s was at anytime.

Several days ago we carved pumpkins with the kids so I saved as many seeds as I could. I then put them on 2-9x13 cookies sheets to dry out in the sun. I put them in the sun for about 4-5 days to dry moving them around occasionally.
So this morning I made my homemade brew of poultry worming potion.
I put the seeds in the food processor and ran them down to a chunky powder form.
In a separate pan I added hot water and added about 3 cups of oatmeal.
Once oatmeal absorbed the water I put everything in the kitchen blender and added about 2 teaspoons of dark chili powder.
Once cooled I filled 2 Chinese food containers and served the remaining potion the the chickens and Turkeys.
They really loved it. I plan on giving them some more in about 3-5 days followed by more 3-5 days after that.
I will report back if I start seeing worms on the poop board. I figured I would give this a go before going 3weeks in egg withdrawal. If nothing else they have been given a super food which I see no down side to. In the end the mixture is
1- 9x13 tray of pumpkin seeds
3cups oatmeal
2 teaspoons dark chill powder

Before it gets said I know it’s unlikely to be as effective as chemical workers but maybe it’s just what they need to help them along.
I admire your desire to keep things natural. But after having had horses for more than fifty years and seeing the nastys that can be expelled... I doubt that It will do much more than give them a nice treat. Chickens love spice.

If you can afford it invest in a used microscope ... A fecal test only has to be done on one because most likely they will all have it. What a fecal test does is lets you count the amount of worm eggs in the Feces. Casportpony will attest to this. You drop some poo in a jar of water and let it swirl around. The eggs will drop to the bottom of the glass you pour off the rest gently and eye dropper the stuff at the bottom onto a slide.

Then you count the worm eggs on the slide. X amount is a normal amount... Y amount is dangerous worm load.

Worms live Not only in the gut but also in the muscle... So you may never see whole life cycles visually through droppings except through the feces.

My feelings on DE are also on the fence... While I can see it would be a natural desiccant I feel the accidental Breathing in of the microscopic skeletons could damage the lungs... For both humans and Critters.

Good luck on your experiment

Without before and after fecal tests one can't say how effective or ineffective it is.
I agree. If I do start seeing some round worms on the boards I will likely do a more involved test in the near future. This is something fun to do to get me going.

On a side note I do have a question about this photo.

As you can see there is a fair amount of feathers being lost. I have a question about the dandruff looking white scales on top of the poop. Is that just what I would call the white membrane that surrounds the feathers as they grow in. So while preening themselves they knock it off? It looks like a bad case of dandruff to me.
