I know someone like that with 4 kids! Its sad! Why would you do that to your kid! I think homeschooling is great! I really do! But its the few bad apples that honestly do not teach their kids a thing that worry me.

We love it here, and if they want to work at 8pm or 2am during a campout in the living room, they can.

I love the options it gives me for my special needs DD. Late start day, move up and down grade levels, extra assignments, theme studies if you wish, experiments, you even have the option of submitting work and having it graded by teachers. It has it all.

Mom sits in on all the learning to reinforce anything that is not understood and gets to enjoy the pride when a new task is learned or completed.

Locally, the biggest issue with people who find out you homeschool is the "socialization". My kids never got to socialize in public school. No talking in halls, cafeteria or class, and recess was 15 minutes a day. They have more by being homeschooled and being in 4-H, going to the library and out in public during the day.

Still looking for a group locally that won't charge me an arm and a leg that isn't heavily one religion denomination laden that we aren't. Sigh.

I really respect those of you that homeschool. Public schools today are getting very scary..

Very true. The bad apples are the ones that worry me as well. But their will be a bad apple in every situation in life.

My kids were so excited to turn one of our extra bedrooms into a classroom and to decorate it with their computers, books, puzzles and learning posters. We found tons of supplies at our local dollar store. Still on the search for an inexpensive Periodic Table of the Elements poster to hang.

I've seen plenty of kids in the public school system who seem to be as worthless as the ones you describe. My SIL's grandson comes to mind. In every group, there will be brilliant kids, mediocre kids, and some that are as dumb as a box of rocks. No amount of schooling of any kind will help that kid. He's just been blessed with Nintendo skills I guess.

I finally found one at the Natural History Museum in San Diego. They had one on a coffee mug, too!

I checked to see if it was in their online store, sigh, it isn't.
