Homesteaders

As I said, I like some of the concepts of the house. I wouldn't want to own any of the ones I saw on the site, I do like my modern conveniences.
I have worked out my dream house also. DH wants to do a concrete house - I like the insulated concrete form walls. No air infiltration and a lot of mass to moderate temps.
I would like to do overhangs to shade interior during high summer, but appropriate overhand to let in any winter sun that is possible, with a mass wall painted dark to gather any heat possible for the house. I love the atriums at the front of the house. My dreamhouse will have two greenhouses on the front of the house, with a mudroom area between. They both will be stepped down at least 3 feet so the beds will be raised to the floor level of the house, with a window between the greenhouse and the house for light. The kitchen will be located behind one of the greenhouses and the other will be in front of a study. The front door will open into the great room with a high efficiency woodstove/fireplace in a mass wall at the back. The stairway will be behind the fireplace wall. Upstairs will be a sitting room along the window wall and off that the upstairs bedrooms. Above the greenhouse will be a porch, so the roof will be stepped back from the front of the house. The back of the house will be partially earthen berm to help conserve the heat. It will have windows down low to let a breeze in and windows up high to let out the heat.

I wish you luck in achieving your dreams and building the house you want.

Sounds good. Never give up on your dreams.

I am not money driven I never have been. I like living in a poor area, we barter, we live, we dont stress about the normal small stuff, no need to try to cheer me up , I understand faith and love are more important in the end

well poo, i know a woman who's hair was much much thicker afterwords ;) . My wifes grandma had radiation therapy some 15 years ago and has been cancer free since, its scary but it's scarier if you don't have faith. positive thoughts make all the difference

@rancher hicks my prayers are with you and your wife. I wish her a good result, good health and a speedy recovery.
My sister is going in for reconstructive surgery later this month. She had breast cancer last year and had a double mastectomy. Her previous reconstruct failed on one side, so she has to go back under the knife. She is worried that she will not be healed in time for her sons wedding in April.

We have a new puppy at the house. He is just starting to explore the yard. I just went outside to see what he was up to and he saw me step out of the house, so he started to run to me in his bouncy, puppy way. The weather was above freezing yesterday and the snow has some soft spots, wouldn't you know his front feet broke through and he did a flip onto his back. He sunk just enough that he couldn't roll off his back and get up! I had to "rescue" him before he hurt himself. Our other dog just stood there and stared at him like "what the heck are you doing? Sheesh, you are an embarrassment to all of dogkind."

your pup is cute

our english bulldog puppy falls and trips over everything , every time she jumps on the porch she misses the first step and I don't know how, the other day she fell so hard she knocked the breath out of herself and just laid motionless on the ground, i thought she killed herself , crazy dog,

I always feel so bad for those bulldogs, with the great big heads and smaller behinds. Messed up center of gravity for sure. My cat has fallen off the back of the new couch a couple of times, he gets up and acts like "I meant to do that".

Our olde english bulldogge went to jump up the 5 inches into the front stoop and forgot to put her paws out first and smashed her jaw on top of the concrete instead. She has now learned to walk a foot farther and climb the 3 inch step instead. Now if I could just get her to quit pooping in the pathway she would be golden.
