Snow on the ground but there is still time to get some more garlic in the ground.

And now would be a good time to add a straw/hay covering. This pic is from a couple of years ago but you get the idea. I'm redoing this entire garden this and next year. Right now I'm laying down cardboard over the entire things and replacing some beds. They've lasted four or five years.

Anyone have an idea of how to keep perennial herbs in check? I'm pulling out spearmint like crazy and planting it around the chicken runs since they won't eat it and it smells nice when hit with the lawnmower. Cleans the sinuses.

For mint they say to plant it is a clay pot, then plant the pot in the grown. Since it spreads through the roots, it can't escape out of the pot. You might be aple to find a long clay or tera cota pot if you want large amounts of it.

For our thanksgiving meal we had chicken we raised, mashed potatoes we grew, deviled eggs from out eggs and dinner rolls I baked made with butternut squash we grew. I am thankful for the ability to provide for me and mine

How do you make the dinner rolls from butternut squash? sounds very healthy!!

The recipe is

3 3/4c AP flour
1/3c brown sugar
2/3c butternut purée
2T butter
1/2tsp salt
2tsp yeast
1/3c milk
1 egg beaten

After baking, melt 2 Tbsp butter with 1/2 tsp each salt, white pepper, tarragon leaf, dill seed and brush on rolls

There is never any leftover rolls and I baked 2 dozen for 9 people
