Homesteaders

can you show us a pic?  Next time might you consider using a ruler with holes drilled to plant the seeds?  How hard is it to make seed tapes?

I have them growing in a 2 gallon pail. They were older seeds so I was worried about germination rates so I over seeded and just sprinkled them around. When I plant in the garden I use a similar method to what you show. I have a sheet of think plywood with 3/4" holes drilled in a 3x12 hole grid. I drop 1-2 seeds per hole then sprinkle with loose soil before removing the grid. It works well.

When I start tomatoes I sometimes try to transplant when I thin but experience taught me that doesn't work so well with carrots.
My space is also very limited in the bucket.

I've never used the ruler method since I don't usually plant carrots. I hope to this year. I just thought you might have some advice on the matter.

Where are your two gallon buckets? Our basement is cool/warm enough but I might need to add light.

I'm anxious to get started in case you can't tell.

I base my carrot planting methods off of the technique from this page:
http://chiotsrun.com/2011/10/04/tips-for-growing-great-carrots/

It works very well.

My bucket carrots are growing in my basement under lights. The tips are about 2" tall now. I plan to let them grow a while then will pluck some young carrots to make more space for other carrots to get large. I doubt I will get tons of carrots but I planted for fun because I have the space. I got the idea from someone on here sharing their indoor gardening including potatoes, I forget who.
I plan to try and keep plants growing all through next winter this coming year

It blows my mind how fast plants can grow. I am propagating some basil and rosemary. I cut them one week ago, used a dab of rooting hormones, and put them in a rooting plug. Check out the root growth! A gave them a dribble of organic fertilizer today to help them along

I thinned my bucket carrots last night.

Thinning any plants is so hard for me. On one hand I know if I don't thin the yield will be worse. On the other hand I feel like I am wasting those seeds/plants.
You can still eat them! Or feed them to the chickens if you'd rather not. Nothing goes to waste round here! Personally, I make seed tape out of toilet paper and a paste of flour and water

Indoor garden is going gangbusters harvesting tomatoes, yellow squash, zucchini, bell pepper, green beans, yellow beans, beets, carrots, mint, basil, and parsley. Hope to have strawberries in a coupla weeks and potatoes between now and next year.

I added 300 watt compact florescent bulbs this year. They are only a coupla bucks more than plant bulbs and are supposed to last years instead of months and the plants luv em.

Got bored and decided to start a boxabator outta stuff I had lying around. It still needs some wire mesh to separate the hatching area from the mechanical stuff. Seems to keep the temperature even, but still have to work on humidity before trying a hatch.

Looks like a nice set up and probably works for you, but I can clean 36 eggs at my sink in hot water by hand in bout 3 minutes and then air dry, so I am not sure of the advantage...but I am open to learning.

Looks perfectly organized to me.
