Homesteaders

Do you have any distinguishing features on your farm? We named our after the creek that runs through our land. Walnut Creek
We have a rediculous amount of black walnut trees and a family of crazy coy/dingo dogs running our hill. My dog is part dingo and part Sheppard and the coy girls out here like him. My kids work the farm right with us so it's a family thing. We will be going off grid , well 95% I have to keep my phone because I have to children with sever medical needs, probably within 10 years and going back in time . Not to save money but to save ourselves from getting lost in technology. We are a very average family and very boring as far as inspiration for a farm name goes.

Oh!! Maybe "hilltop family farm". We are at the highest point on our hill. We currently have chickens, both meat and egg, and a very large garden. We will be adding more as time goes, but for now it's small. We love growing things and raising animals and this is just the beginning of our homestead.

Scavenged for a truck load of loose straw today~FREE~and there's at least another truck load there, but what's left is very mulched, like black gold!

Also got a heavy, well built nightstand at a yard sale for $4 today and am thinking seriously about turning it into a beehive....it sure would be a cute one. I'd like to lure in a wild swarm this year if I can...I'll need to get this completed soon if I'm to get that opportunity, as they had scout bees out in the first of April last year, searching around our shed.

Egg count is growing and the breeding pen tweaking needs to be finished, but it's not. Hope to get a lot accomplished tomorrow on that...doing things a little differently this year, a new experiment. If I can get my breeders in the pen with the rooster by the 20th, laying, then sitting their clutches by the first part of April, I'll have a whole month's jump on my breeding season of last year. It's just warm enough this spring to get early broodies...I sure hope and pray that is the case.

Tons to do....fun things! I love this time of year!!!

Maybe trying a different word for farm would work to get all to agree, and not sound like others farms ( I think there are probably lots of "Hilltop" farms). Such as:
Just think of all the great names you could come up with with out using the word Farm.
