Homesteaders

I almost bought the Egyptian topset onions also, maybe next fall. I think that's what I might do Molpet, plant half now and half in spring, good idea. Thanks.

Egyptian are like weeds here.. my great grands planted them here originally. They grow in clay, part shade and in the driveway LOL.. The ones I have are hot and do not get very big. But they are nice to have in the spring before others are up, also a piece of my Great Grand Parents. Those, peonies, old tires and the junk pile is about all that is left of the GGP LOL

Do you use the Egyptians in your spring cooking? How are they in soups and such? If I don't actually use them in the kitchen, I think they'll be great in the orchard to repel pests.
yes I use them in soups, sauteed and salads...anywhere I would use onions ..I like them , except they are small ... like green onions.. I don't use the sets too often, just the plant in the spring.
I took some in when I worked and they ate them raw, by themselves, but said

HOT.. bring more LOL

Had a very light dusting of snow here in western MD last night. And windy as all get out! I never knew it could feel like Kansas in the mountains! I keep having to adjust and retie the tarps on the wood pile! More wind and possible snow showers today. I'm not complaining; just getting introduced to rural homestead weather! I ain't seen nothin' yet!

Im in central MD.... No dusting last night but windy windy windy! WIndy now too! Now is the time when I start to dread morning animal chores. But, nothing wakes you up for the day like bone chilling wind and frozen fingers from changing out frozen water!
