We have a family of 7 so it's a minivan in our driveway until we can afford a Suburban. A truck must be bought before we get the suburban though. Ya just can't get a round bale of hay in a minivan or suburban, it would make such a good joke around town though. They already laugh at us when we fill the van with bedding and feed.
 
@Beekissed nice!!!! and it came in reinforced that's a plus. It's a good investment, will have to check if my SUV has the towing capability. We can't afford a truck now or in the near future so I've got my fingers crossed that our vehicle will be safe, off course apart from hay, feed, pallets and a few other things, I don't plan to overload it if and when I get one. Just showed hubby your trailer and said this year if he gets me anything for birthday, mothers day thats is what I would like.

. Off course I will be looking on craiglist and other places for used ones in good condition.

Around here you can pick up a 90s vintage Ford F-150 for 800 bucks and those things are the best farm truck.

I used a homemade 4x8 ute trailer for years and for many things with my SUV. Moved the family across state, moved firewood, manure, wood chips, rocks, fencing, you name it, I moved it in that old trailer. For the best of both worlds and having a large family to transport~which you can't do as comfortably in a truck~a sturdy SUV with a hitch can go a long way towards getting a homestead off the ground.

One thing about utility trailers...they don't often break down on you.

Don't get me wrong, for I love a good old farm truck and find them worth their weight in gold, but as a single mother trying to homestead owning another vehicle was not really an option, let alone keeping it in adequate running condition.
 
I'm not opposed to a beater truck at all, but first must come a large SUV. Our oldest daughter is physically disabled and in a wheelchair so van kinda sucks for going shopping . There is no room for the chair and groceries. I would love an 80's model truck and suburban.
 
We do have a quad and a 4×8 trailer for around the 80 acres we maintain. Only 9 is ours, the rest is a horse farm belonging to an elderly couple next to us. That's where I got my knowledge of horses.
 
We have a 10' utility trailer. It comes in so handy going and getting supplies. New ones are high, but you can get a good used one for a decent price.

I've always wanted one of those old step side style of truck bed trailer. I like the way they look, lol.
