Homesteaders

yes those!! I have black astrolorp, white leghorn, production reds for the eggs and my boys are spitzhauben one gold, one silver. I think the silver laced Wyandotte would look nice running with my flock. They are a nice contrast to the all one color.

I will warn you that most people say their SLWs are bullies. Mine seem ok but maybe I lucked out or my rooster is good at keeping them in check. I like them.
They also come in other colors besides silver laced.

I'm not super worried about them being bullies, my rottweiler stops all fights. He lays down between the offenders and starts playing with them.

From what I have heard it isn't just fighting it's things like henpecking and blocking other chickens from food and thing like that. Again, I haven't had issues but I want to let you know what the 'general concensus' thinks.

That said, as your typical BYC enabler I say get them! Get them now! Trust me, the chicken math adds up!

I had 3 SLW. I really liked them, but mine were bullies and noisy. They would pick the tail feathers out of one of my EE's. Poor girl, never had a pretty tail until after I sold them. Mine were complainers. Seems like they were always griping about something. My flock really settled down once they were gone.

if they get to jerk like I will just house them alone. No biggie.

I place the dogs' living quarters behind the coop and keep their heated bucket in front of the coop, while feeding them down the yard a ways on the porch of the shed, so this leaves well beaten pathways in the snow all around the coop and down to the chicken's favorite winter time lounge area. This allows my chickens to go for a stroll on a nice textured by dog paws highway without an ounce of work from me. Works for everyone.
