Can't hurt can it?  Stick a clove in a pot and see what happens.  

I've seen some indoor herb gardens and I'm considering making one.  We do have an unused Strawberry pot.  

I'm actually starting one with Ginger, one root started growing on my counter then I read it grows well indoor and when I need some just uproot cut needed size and replant. Here's a pic of what is growing but yet to put in a pot with soil.

Wow, I am going to have to try that. I love using fresh ginger but half of it always goes bad on me.

When this photo was taken it was in the low 20s F. Which is warmer than normal for us right now. Usually it is in the low teens or single digits during the days by now

It's 5° outside it feels like -4° out. My water lines froze and busted in spite of heat tape and water running all night. My chickens had frozen water this morning and I have no water. So I had to walk to my neighbors barn and get water for the flock. Brrr I'm cold

Oh no! I hope you can get the pipes fixed quickly!! Maybe add pipe insulation over the heat tape?
