it froze where it comes from the well to the house, well single wide from 1980. He built a surrounding for all exposed pipes out of 2 inch insulation board. Mad? Oh yes he was very. It all froze because our 14 year old left the hose hooked up and the water on. So first froze the hose and it just traveled from there.

This was supposed to be posted here but I screwed up with the tablet.
Anyhow if you post some pics maybe we can offer some ideas to fix this problem.
Where in the line is it freezing. We used to rent and the hot water pipe ran up the outside of the house BUT inside an enclosed porch. It would freeze there until I wrapped it with insulation and aluminum foil. It looked horrible but at least it didn't freeze. The heat tape offered no relief.

what type of onions do you plant? I have read that the mild ones like spanish, bermuda & vidalia don't store well but the Pungent ones can store for even 10months. I don't have a basement but my garage is detached and cold during winter.
I grow whatever the local nursery carries for onion starts. Usually some kind of sweet yellow or white. We usually have them used up by November because they don't grow very big and we use lots of them for canning salsa.
We also have started buying onions from a local Amish auction house. They are huge and good. Store well in the basement as I noted above. I cover them with a blanket as well to keep the light out

Today's fun was tearing the roof and walls of a lean too garage. . Yupp, it was all froze together. That's finished though and tomorrow looks peaceful so far.
nope not renters. We paid cash so we don't even have a mortgage company. That's why everything is breaking, it's a 36 year old mobile home that was neglected for the last 33 years. That's also why we were able to pay cash, all we were charged for was the land and the buildings were thrown in free.Sounds to me it's not buried deep enough. My mothers was buried deep in that it entered the well wall pretty low. It might be time to dig it up and set the pipe deeper.
On the other hand if you're renters I would do nothing but call the landlord. No matter how low or high the rent is.
