Then how can you do an unbiased argument when you only talk to one side? Maybe you need to get your"facts" for both sides of the argument from internet research. Seems like that's only fair to both.

I honestly don't blame the bigger operations for not wanting to talk because no matter what they say or do it seems they can't win.

ETA: We have a thousand acres and a cow herd...ask away.

Thank you

Do you have employers? Ranch hands, managers ect or is all the work done by family members/house mates?

How do you graze your herd? i.e. rotational grazing with smaller pastures or over the whole acreage?

Are the cows dairy or beef? Do you produce to sell or family consumption? Or both?

What is the cows diet like? Grazing mostly, grain, or a mixture?

If you do sell milk/beef, how do you sell? Auction, or through private customers? Also, what are the prices? (taking things into account like the current market) What (abouts) do you spend monthly, or annually? (you don't have to answer that one lol not trying to pry)

If any of the cows become ill what are your procedures?

(do you have a laying flock of chickens? If so can I ask you some questions about that as well? Thanks.)

I heard this interview last night on the radio:

http://www.publicbroadcasting.net/w....the.City.as.Much.as.the.City.Needs.the.Farms

I didn't listen to the whole thing, but the gist seemed to be farmers within a couple hours of the city and how the recent move to eating locally has affected them, and how they've changed what they do in order to capitalize. They added dairy goats to an operation that was previously dairy and meat cattle and meat goats, because a local chef asked them about sourcing goat milk. Now a great deal of their business is goat milk and goat cheeses.

I don't recall seeing anything wherein she said she WOULDN'T BE interviewing people in the "big industry". I personally actually provided her with SOME information, as I've experienced large scale farming and how they treat their birds first-hand. My first husband was a ranch assistant/ranch manager for Foster Farms for 7 years. I have personally lived on one of their ranches. She's made all the right contacts to all the right people and is writing about BOTH sides. I don't know why you assumed she wasn't.

Sooooo she's doing her homework. Just has been asking for info on here from the small farmer's side. Nice of you to be able to help her out from that viewpoint.

The following statement is why I figured she wasn't going to bother interviewing anyone from the "other side".
I will be interviewing a few people on the small scale farming side (mostly because the info for factory farms is so available! But there is very little solid sources regarding the small scale farmers, so I put an ad on Craigslist and will be interviewing a few folks who have their own dairy cattle, beef cattle, chickens and/OR crops for personal use or sale.)

I am still not getting where that indicates in any way that she was ONLY interviewing small farmers or why it got your feathers all in a ruffle to say the things you said, but it's all good.
