HOMING PIGEON QUESTIONS

I AM GETTING SOME HOMING PIGEONS VERY SOON AND HAVE ALOT OF QUESTIONS.
1 I AM GETTING BIRD BETWEEN 3 AND 6 MONTHS.
2 THESE BIRDS HAVE NEVER BEEN FLOWN SO WILL THE COME BACK HERE OR GO TO THE BREEDERS HOUSE.(WE ONLY LIVE TWO BLOCKS AWAY FROM EACH OTHER.
3 HOW OLD ARE THE BIRDS BEFORE THEY START BREEDING.
4 HOW LONG IS THE INCUBATION PERIOD
THIS IS JUST A FAMILY PROJECT JUST FOR ME AND THE KIDS TO TRAIN. NO RACING OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT.
I KNOW THIS IS LONG AND ALOT OF?? BUT I TRIED THE PIDGEON TALK PAGES AND CANT GET ANY HELP THERE SO I THOUGHT I'D COME BACK HERE. THANK YOU FOR ANY AND ALL HELP

honestly you should be able to get all that info from the breeder however I do know that if the chick isn't born at your place it won't home back to your place. If you do try them, i'd band them that way if they fly back to the breeders house you can retrieve them

As long as they havent been flown, they will come back to your place. BUT being 2 blocks away, they may go back there, but I doudt it.

Not sure on breeding age. At 6 months old more then likely they will be breeding.

Incubation is like 14 days for most breeds.

The males coo, the hens dont, most hens dont, but males do alot of dancing and cooing..........

If they havent been flown, they will come back to your place (usually)
The incubation period for homing pigeons is 17 to 19 days with 18 being the average
I would house all the young pigeons together until after their first molt and then they would pick their own mates. It amde breeding alot easier if they chose themseves.
Hens usuually start laying eggs around 8 months of age

Just keep them confined at your place for a while before you fly them. They will know that you are home for them.

You will enjoy them.

The biggest problem we have had with Homers is the problem we have had with all birds--raccoons get after them. So keep them in a safe place.

Incubation 18 days, breed at 6 months.

Have they been pen were they could see outside,(flight pen) YES they will return there. If they are good homers you can bet on it. 2 blocks they will see that area from the air when flying.

Now if they never saw the outside they will not return.

I alway pick the mates for them, best racer to best racer. Same with show birds.

I personally would not fly the birds, and if you do I'd suggest waiting quite some time until they "imprint" to your coop and property, then train them to enter the trap for a long time before letting them free. By this time, you'll likely have identified a breeding pair or two, and should think about not flying those and training their offspring as your flyers. Can't lose that way, I think.

If you were to fly them and they do go back to the breeder they are not trained to enter the coop there probably, and you might not be able to catch them again or hawks may pick them off as they loiter in the area. Unless there is some reason you really need to have flyers sooner, I'd really think twice about using these first birds you get.

Having said all that, I'll tell you that we did train and fly the first birds we got but all six were just weaned and we held them in and trained them for about three months before letting them out the first time.
