Yes, they hatch new bees in the spring, but must have bees to keep the hive alive. New bees in the spring replace the bees that made it thru the winter. Most need thousands of workers to start out in the springs

Beautiful. Shame the hive appears dead. Don't know enought about honeybees to add much more.
I lurk on the Beemaster forum. There appears to be alot of friendly people with great advice. Also there is something called an "observation hive". Check it out, your in the house hive may not be so crazy after all.

Looks like I'll have to hang it up for now at least...unless some new bees come along and take up residence

lol

That's ok.... one of these years I'll have to get me all of the gear and hives and books and bees that I need to start my own boxes

Yes that hive is neat, thinking about trying one. My 3 yr old grandson has an ant farm. works about the same, except the bees need to get outside

It's too bad the hive was dead... but, at least it did not all sit and go to waste stuck in the rafters

I'm glad we found it and pulled it out!

Looks like they froze out or disease kill them, had plenty of food for winter. From the pic. looks like more than one type of honey(all good)
