Honey Bees

I talked to the beekeepers at the fair about this on Sunday.
There is a house near mine that has hives, and I thought about stopping and asking if they'd teach me about it. I'd like to try it before I set out to get the equipment and such.

The beekeepers association near me gives away 3 sets of equipment to 'newbees' each year in a drawing. I think that's really great!

First I'd rather help out and make sure I really want to do this. I dearly love honey, but am allergic to stings. Not deathly so, but enough that there's cause for concern. I'm afraid I'll be a big weenie about it, too scared to actually work with the hive. So I want to try it with an expert first.

Does he raise healthy queens? Does he ship them? I need some queens now and then so maybe if he does a good job then I could look into that! Does he live near you?

i love my bees . there very esay to keep and fun to watch. I f your just starting out see if you can find a local beekeeper some will help you get set up. Maybe take a class .Its to late to start a new hive now if you live in the north. You will have to wait till spring if you can start with a nuc they will build faster then a package. Here is the beekeeping thredhttp://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=310974
