Lake Tahoe is on the California Nevada border, and it's at 6400' so it's in the mountains, it is 22 miles long and 12 miles across. It is the second deepest alpine lake in the world. It averages 300 days of sun per year and the temperatures in August are in the 80's. It's surrounded by U.S. government protected forest parks and is a major draw for outdoor enthusiasts who like to mountainbike, hike, sail, climb, fish, ski (water & snow), etc. The nightlife is driven by 24 hour casinos with dance clubs and live entertainment. There are four pleasure cruise boats that offer sunset dinners. The best night life is on the south shore. There are plenty of romantic idyllic spots and beaches around the lake and if you come you should make a point of driving around it one day (about a 3 hour drive). Lake Tahoe north shore is roughly 45 minutes from Reno Tahoe International Airport and south lake is another 30 minute romantic drive along the shore. Lake Tahoe has been featured in films like The Godfather. The Fleur du Lac was the Corleone lake side estate in the movie. See this link at http://www.boattahoe.com/interesting_sites.htm I hope you choose Lake Tahoe, it's never a disappointment.
