My New Hampshire and my buff Orpington 9 week old chicks honk. It's not a cluck, it's like a squeaky fog horn... I'll get a video up later.
Do a lot of chickens make this noise?

Is it when you give them treats? I have a suspected roo that does that, then runs around with the treat.

My Turken ( Naked Neck ) chicks all honk too....! They are of a similar age to yours....the adults cluck! I have over 40 chickens and the loudest by far are my Silkies......they screech for attention...

Usually for treats as the above poster says....

My 15 week old chicks kind of honk too...and it's plenty cool here, so it's not the heat.
I think maybe it's an adolescence voice change thing....a stage between cheeping and clucking?

I have 15 meat cornish/rock crosses out in the chicken tractor. There is one, that when I startle, honks like a goose. Cracks me up every time. I hear it.
