Honking like geese?

Because of our mild weather here, and the gorgeous sunny afternoons (thus the run being a muddy mudpit), I have been letting our flock out for some free range time in the afternoons. This afternoon, the hens and one rooster were in the back, and I was at the front of the house, waiting for the school bus. Suddenly, there was a noise like honking geese from the backyard. It went on and on and on. I strolled around and took a peek, only to see the bulk of the flock come running out a treed area, and another set over in an open part of the pasture. Roo was with the flock coming out of the trees, and they all looked at me, as if to say, "What? What's the big deal, lady? Do you have food for us?"

So, what gives on the goose impersonation? I have caught them impersonating ducks before, briefly, but this was LOUD and went on for a while. Anyone ever heard anything like this?
