Hopeful broody

One of my hens started sitting longer in the nest. When she comes out, there is no new eggs. So she does not lay an egg, but just sits there.

I would actually like her to try her hand at rearing chicks. Any way I can encourage her to sit? She does not sit 24x7 and goes on the roost at night.

I don't know of any way to encourage a hen to be broody. It's actually a hormonal condition. She just might be working up to it though. I'd say leave her alone while she's sitting on the nest, and see what happens.

Good luck! They never seem to want to be broody when we want them to be broody...

My dad just informed me when i showed up at work that my banty hen might be broody

HOPEFULLY SHE IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

there are close to 7 eggs and i would love some more D'uccle's

Until she stays on the nest through the night, she is not broody. I have had several hens that would sit on the nest for hours, but never went broody. Took me awhile, but now I have a broody that will be hatching her eggs next week. She's only 7 months old.
