Hopeful Hatch-a-Long

Here is the official update!
We are waiting still for Hunnicutt and Nugget to pip, I am a little bit worried about them. But I was worried about everything regarding this hatch so what else is new! Today is day 21, so they technically aren't late yet. Humidity is 71% and temp is fluctuating between 99.5 and 100.

Between leaving my house and getting to school, Charles made his debut! Here he is! I am confident he is a wyandotte x buff Orpington corss, he doesn't have a single comb and has the black spot as well. So cute!

He, along with Winchester and Radar all must be half Buff Orpington (my rooster) and half Silver Laced Wyandotte; they have rose combs! I forgot about the comb part, they also have a black spot on their head. I'm unsure if these are sex linked, but if they are I am worried that they may all be roosters. That would mean I can only really keep one of them, but I'm sure I'd be able to find good homes for the others if I had to. If anyone knows if there is a way to tell this early with that cross, let me know!! I am doing some research but all I can see is that females should be gold and black and males would be silver and black and I don't know how to tell what color they will be this early.

Here are some pictures of them anyway they sure are cute!

For the eggs that haven’t externally pipped yet, I would pull them out and do a quick candle. They won’t shrink wrap if they haven’t externally pipped (and even if they have, they won’t if you are quick) If they have internally pipped, you may want to make a safety hole for them. If they haven’t internally pipped it’s probably likely that they won’t hatch at this point.

Congrats on your gorgeous babies!!!! I don’t know about the possible sex links with the SLW. If you end up with any from the barred rock hen, they will be sex linked, males will have a white head spot and be barred, females won’t.

Thank you!! I did see egg 7 wiggling so I will candle in a few hours if I’m not seeing any progress yet!

Oh yay that is a great sign! If you have a brooder ready for them, you can also pull out all the fluffed up chicks! (I usually wait until it has been at least an hour since they hatched before I pull them out.) Just if they are getting overcrowded and going crazy with the unhatched eggs 😂 So happy for all of your sweet babies!!!!!

Okay, so 10:30 am (PST) and still no pips on 4 and 7. I candled four (not super well, but it was up against the glass so I held my flashlight up to it and could see the air cell) I don't see an internal pip? But I also don't really know what that would look like. The air cell is facing the right direction.

I also candled 7 (this one was even harder to see as it wasn't right pressed up against the glass) but it looks like the air cell is kind of big. It could just be that I'm seeing the wide side of the slant on this one. Should I wait to open the incubator? It is day 21, the other five are fluffy and moving about so I would like to put them in the brooder, but not if it will put the other two at risk.
