Hoping for advice from more experienced chicken freaks..

I don't know if this encourages or discourages you but ivemectrin is also used in removing parasites in humans. If given a choice its what I use on my flock due to the added effect of killing mites and lice. I'm not skirting any warnings but if you were to eat a whole ton of ivemectrin eggs the worst side effect would be you would get dewormed. ;)
Ivemectrin are eggs? How do you give it to the chickens? And where do you get this stuff? Our feed stores here don’t carry anything but natural medicine anymore, except for the one they couldn’t suggest I use do to it not being labeled for laying hens, so I guess inless it’s available on Amazon I’d have to go through a vet?

Haha! I’d prefer not to eat “ivemectrin eggs”, doesn’t sound terribly appetizing.. so how long do you normally hold off until after the last dose? And how do you dose and deliver it? Also, where do you get it? Is it available at the feed store, Amazon or does it require a trip to the vet to obtain? Thanks for the info!

I have used ivermectin for treating scaly leg on a couple of non layers before. I think the usual withdrawal is 14 days. It's different here though. I've heard ivermectin can be used to treat for worms but I'm not sure what dosage or how to administer. I got pipettes that I just squeezed directly on to their neck. It did work.

This what i used. You can get it from any pet store for only a few pounds. I did hear somebody on here went to buy some from a feed store and it was over $100!? I'm guessing that must have been s bulk pack. I also have a friend who does use it all the time on his hens and never bothers about any withdrawal and he seems ok... I think!

It, like many other 'meds' you'll see here, is used 'off-label'.....
....meaning it's not been tested for chickens so there is no 'official' withdrawal time or dosage or application method.
You'll have to dig thru and find a regime you're comfortable with and make the decision on how to proceed. Best of cLuck!

I get it at TSC and its labeled for horses, but I'd imagine it is on Amazon as well. I put about a half a pea sized dollop for each bird on a bit of bread and divvy it out. They do sell spot on ivemectrin as well but it is easier to control the paste form that's taken internally at least for me. Personally I wait five days before using the eggs, don't know if that's the reccomended time but I'm ok with that. I'd rather have a natural option to control internal parasites as well but there really aren't many options that actually work so this is a necessary evil. Got to admit it is probably much nicer than having worms and mites. :)

Thanks for the good info everyone. Now to see if I can find it! Chickassan, you said you do a half of a pea size dollop for each bird- how often? I like the word “forgiving” quite a bit- along with Chickencountryuk’s comment that it’s used to treat people for parasites as well. That’s at least a little comfort for somone who’s so paranoid about chemicals/drugs. I thank you, and so do “the girls”! Let’s hope this plumps them up a bit- because it’s the last resort. I guess that being the case, if they don’t plump up, then I can relax in knowing they’re just naturally a flock of skinny biotches!
