Hoping I haven't ruined the batch

I have a forced air non foam incubator. It's a cheaper Chinese one. What I was saying was (yes I calibrated) it was reading the temperature Too low. I didn't realize tell later on which makes me think delayed development. So I upped the temperature to read what it is now and added two new thermometers which are both reading the same. I hope that cleared that up lol

I wonder if anyone has tried dry incubation in the Janoels? They seem to behave similarly to styrofoam
I would really like to find some people that have done the dry incubation in some of these bators and compare results and then compare them to dry incubation in the styros.

My experience is just the opposite....but it has to be done right and there are still guidlines as to how dry you should go, which I would suspect may differ in types of bators.
I am just freaking out (all ready ) because I had twins I lost this time and I know I have another set for the next go (not sure if fertile) but if they are I want to give them the best chance in hatching.

That is such a slim probability. Not impossible, just improbable, but good luck. A lot of people, and I am not taking sides, just playing devils advocate, think that it is immoral to even try because you are promoting the start of a life that has a slim probability of making it to their first breath.

Yes I did have that thought. I really did. I just need to stop over thinking it all I guess.

So Sarafena, how are they doing now?

I too have the cheaper knock-off version of the Janoel. Plastic, 48 egg, with turner and fan. The biggest problem I have with it is the temp fluctuations. I think the eggs hold fairly steady temp, but the heater comes on, goes off, come on, goes off.... in about 3-4 minute intervals. After using it a while, I'm ok with it, but its still annoying. I added some high-tech insulation that my hubby uses for hvac work, and it seems to keep the heater from working so hard. I bought it from a local guy with eggs already in it. Yeah, that was fun~ haha. Long story made short, I lost all 7 eggs. They were way under-developed when I opened them. I think he had the temp set too low and I kept the humidity way too high. The humidity sensor on the unit is horrible, and I pay no attention to it! I have to keep the temp set at 38.0-38.1C to keep a good 99.5F average. (38.0C = 100.4F). I have since spent a small fortune on thermometers and hygrometers. But I have a batch of chickens in now that are doing fantastic!

I basically do dry incubation, and it stays around 35%. If it dips under 30, I add a little water to one corner. But I live in an area that is usually pretty humid naturally.

These are the water channels in the bottom. I ONLY use one little square corner for water. At lockdown, I'll fill up 1, then another, then another if necessary. I rarely need the long channels. I took a sharpie marker to the tops of the channel walls so I could see where I was squirting.

This is the insulation I added around the outside. I also cut the windows in the sides because you couldn't see through the bottom! Ugh, who designed that? LOL I think later versions were clear, but mine is solid gray.

Stuck in the hole on top is another probe thermometer, but I don't use that one any more.

Its unfortunate that we have to somewhat "experiment" on innocent little babies, but once you get the bugs worked out, its all good! Best of luck to you!

I am still waiting on my baby. I only had two make it past day 20

This incubator drives me nuts. I can not get it to hold the temperature unless I have a fan heater going in the room with it. I don't know if I want to give it another go or not. I feel like all I'm doing is killing them. I checked tonight and I believe one has pasted and the other I know is still alive. Now it's just a waiting game which I am not good at at all lol.

From your picture, it looks like a pip in one egg to me... is it??? Not the egg closest to the wall, the other one.

I really do understand your frustrations. I have no idea how many people are successful on their first try, but I would bet the number would be fairly low. It seems so easy, but then it can be so frustrating! Be we learn, and we move on. You will try again! We can't be perfect to start! My sister-in-law tried to hatch ducks several years ago and none made it. She wouldn't try again, because she was scared. But then I hatched some ducks so she tried again. She got 9 beautiful little fuzzbutts out of 12! Its a downer when it doesn't work, but its soooo rewarding when it does work!!

Anyway, I wish you the best and hope you will try again. I am still hopeful for the ones you have left too!

Picture is real blurry, but it does look like a pip in that far one.
