Todays update:
Still not too interested in food/water :/ crop still doughy and a few watery small/green whitish poos.
She’s out now with the other hens in the sun, but isn’t able to interact and just sits with her eyes closed and open mouth breathing.
Treatments today;
- molasses flush, I heard this can help? I gave her a 2mL (based on 1TBSP per 2C water) and that might be why she’s pooed a bit more today. I want to make sure she gets water to rehydrate
- melted coconut oil 10mL, she takes it pretty well with a syringe and we haven’t got any down to wrong pipe yet! That seems to soften the crop more, and a bit of crop contents came up when I tipped her over (I’m not pushing the vomiting as its risky, just tested it out and some naturally came out).

Overall, realistically I haven’t seen a chicken recover from a state like this - but I do really appreciate the tips and hope to make her as comfortable as possible and I try to get to the bottom of it💕

I’m still considering the fungal treatment, but it I feel like she’s been through alot already and most of the treatments just seem to stress her out, and she overall seems to be getting worse despite all the tlc💕
I also think that the crop issue might be a symptom of something underlying…I’m still not sure what

She also seems to have air in her crop? It’s sounds very gurgly as I massage it - I guess just another sign of bacteria/fungal infection?

Okay thanks! She’s basically stopped eating at this point, but I can leave it out for her:)
From my experience with my other chickens regarding crop issues is that I give them molasses to give them energy while they also get Epsom salt drink solution to flush out whatever in their crop.

3 times a day epsom salt drink 3ml each time and gently massage the crop. My other chickens that did not have serious other issues their crop clear slowly cleared in 3 or 4 days. One that did not, I gently massage her crop a few times a day especially before bed time. There was one hen that persistent, but she was still eating and ultimately cleared it.

Epsom salt drink solution 1 tea spoon mix well with 125ml of water.
With care and slowly 1ml and 3ml in total.
3 times a day with crop massage gently downward.
Let her sit inside with you so she can rest quietly
Let her outside for a walk as well so that the movement help moving things along.

Your girl might still be saved.
Of course if all treatments failed, then it might be more of other issues and sour crop is just a secondary issue.
All the best, thinking of your hen and you.

I agree with the epsom salt too. I think at this point something is taking hold if she's not eating, and so time may be running out. If you feel you can carefully treat for fungal infection I'd say go for it.

I’m wondering, did you look in her beak to make sure she didn’t have anything in there? The open mouth breathing might mean something like canker, and you mentioned a funny smell…
I’ve looked in and it seemed normal, the smell seems to be from her crop…it hasn’t properly emptied in a few days now:(
