Hoping to start a chicken garden in the spring.... pending hoa. Need some pointers.

I have three Wyandottes and a four foot chain link fence. They have never even thought of flying over it even when young. I was worried about that also and lots of people told me they would fly over the fence, even my BIL, but like you I decided on a large breed less prone to fly. I think you'll be fine with Orps.

I doubt very much you'll have any issues with Orpingtons flying over a 6 foot fence. Mine never even attempted our 4 foot fence.

As far as chickens and coop being in the garden? Is this garden intended to produce food for human consumption or just for the chickens to enjoy in their run? Either way, if the chickens have access you won't have a garden for long. Best to use part of the yard for garden and fence the chickens out of it.
