My neighbors have about half an acre surrounded on three sides by my three acres (its a flag lot) I bang my head all the time trying to.figure out who thought dividing the parcels like that was wise but that's beside the point. They have about six cats a dog twenty five ducks and sixteen chickens. I do NOT care that they have animals. My hubby and I have ten turkeys twenty chickens and two guineas but we keep them penned up in a large coop and run. My neighbors however constantly allow their animals to run wild. I've talked to them many times about how I understand animals don't know about property lines but could they please keep everyone over their side...to which they smile nod and continue to do what they are doing! We find poop everywhere, the cats poop in our garden and bury it, hunt and kill birds we find the carcasses everywhere and has been eating fish from our pond, the dog poops on our porch every morning and the chickens dust bath in my garden scatter mulch each flowers tomatoes etc (we all know how chickens can destroy some stuff if left to themselves) I don't want to call the township unless I have to (I have my own animals and while we are zoned for them in sure enough calls will make them reconsider) but I am at my wits end ....any suggestions would be appreciated!!!
and these type of people are the reason why people don't want backyard chickens in their neighborhoods!
But seriously, maybe have them pay for half the price of a fence. Just the act of presenting them with a notice to comply would scare them into keeping their animals in bounds. So have a lawyer write a letter informing them that if they are not able to corral their pets and maintain boundaries they would have to either foot the bill of a private fence or half the price of a shared fence. You have nasty neighbors and they are probably already upset that you confronted them and now are just being even more nasty to try to teach you... So sorry for you and good luck.
