I narrowed the search down to foreclosed homes with at least 4 bedrooms on at least an acre of land and came up with 23 properties. Since I don't know where all these towns are in relation to where you live I'll let you check them out... http://www.realtor.com/foreclosures...do-townhome-row-home-co-op/sby-1/ofbm-4/?ml=4

You are getting so much good help here! I just wanted to add my 2 cents. We looked for a house for 2 years, couldn't find anything. Finally I sat down with a pencil and paper and wrote out everything we wanted. At least 5 acres, old house, the long windows, NOT on pavement but close to the interstate, cheap!!, pond, fireplace. Didn't get the pond or the fireplace but everything else we did. It was actually a little freaky how close to the list it was.

I encourage you to make your list what you WANT and not what you'll accept. I should have been a little clearer about condition. Our house needs a LOT of work. But I thought to get cheap I had to choose unfinished. I know better now, everything you want is out there. Especially in this market you WILL get what you want.

After a paint job and new roof....

We would have to move waaaaaayy out into the boonies, and with school and work and biz associates, we simply cannot do that.

That would be my first choice----move waaaaay out into the boonies and live in a used trailer while building your "dream" house and homestead. But then, I like to shoot deer off the back porch and not have neighbors close enough to throw a wrench into any plans on livestock or loud drunken parties----not that I have loud drunken parties, but if I wanted too.....

Don't despair Suzette!

You have a few months to work things out, and while I'm sure it is incredibly stressful especially with a big family and another child on the way, I am sure you will find something available. There are so many properties in foreclosure, there ought to be somewhere that you can find to stay. If all else fails, you could always move somewhere for a few months while you work out finding a better place to live that suits your family and needs.

By the way, I'm just up in Penn Valley. If you'd like me to hold on to some of your favorite birds for you for a few months I could probably arrange to do that, as I have some pens where they could live for now. Nothing fancy, but they'd be all right and I would make sure they have shelter and are comfortable. I can't hold a ton of them, but if you have special birds like the jersey giants or some favorite birds that you want to guarantee you won't lose, let me know and we'll work something out. I might want a little help with feed costs or something (I feed Flock Raiser and it's up to $18.99 a bag!

), but other than that I wouldn't mind. I take excellent care of chickens and you'd be welcome to visit them as much as you want! Drop me a PM any time if I can help.

Oh Silverphoniex, you are SOOOOO amazing to make such an offer!! I have about 6 or 7 Jerseys that I would just die if I had to let go, and your offer is a GOD send!! I will PM if and when the time comes. 3 are roo's though.... but they are very well mannered and are short, deep crowers, so not annoying or anything. I would definately pay for their feed, and I'd be happy to buy an extra bag or 2 for your chickies, for your time and trouble to care for mine.

I just called my local feed store here in Auburn and their Purina flock raiser is up to 17.99, and the lay crumble is 15.60, so I know what ya mean about feed! Even the scratch has gone from 8 bucks to 11!! I guess the price of corn has gone through the roof recently. What bugs me is, the stuff they have in stock right now, was purchased by them BEFORE the price went up, but they are selling it based on the current price of corn. Talk about unfair!
AND my hens lay better when fed flockraiser, so I have to have more of it on hand (I mix it with laycrumble) and of course Jerseys eat ALOT.

I just cant express how wonderful you all are and how amazing it is to know there are sooo many good people in my life (even if just virtually

).

I'm still on the hunt for a home, and not having much luck, but I'm not giving up yet! I just KNOW the right place is out there. I'm thinking of asking hubby to talk to the Landlord and see if we cant get just a few more months, at least till July. Ya never know, he ( the LL) might be cool with it, especially since his wife is the one who is really pushing him to move, and I guess she wants him to do a bunch of $$$ remodeling that he doesnt really have the $$ for right now. I'll take any amount of extra time if it lets me keep my chookies longer and gives us the time to find a place that is backyard flock friendly.

There is so much to consider with this move, not just work and school. I cant imagine trying to move after my 7th month- all huge and waddling, and it will be HOT, and I'd still have to chase my 2 and 4 year old around while trying to pack and move. But then again, trying to move any sooner means the same kid scenario, but I have to add rainy weather and school schedules and karate schedules and hubby at work all day and half the night 7 days a week. Sheesh, I really need to try to find some more positives to focus on...

Somehow, someway, someone will come forward in helping you with the chickens, particuarly your beloved Giants. I love those birds but they will eat me out of my own home LOL!

Just keep looking and somehow something will come your way, particuarly when spring is around the corner, the house market should pick back up again. Believe me, you would want to move as soon as you can before you hit the seventh month, it will get tiring LOL!

No problem, I am glad to at least be able to do that! My brother has wanted Jerseys for a long time so I think he will be excited to have some temporarily.

I am sure they are beautiful birds, and roosters are all right. I already have something like twelve roosters, what's another few on top of that?

Just drop me a PM any time if you need me to take some of your birds for a while, we'll work things out.

I know, the feed stores are scaring me here! If I'm remembering correctly the price went suddenly from $16.99 to $18.99 here for Flock Raiser. I was so unhappy to discover that--my birds go through about a bag a week!

Best of luck, I am hoping things work out, and soon. I think, with how many vacant houses there are currently because of the economy, somehow the right place will pop up. Just be persistent, and try not to get too discouraged. There are many possibilities out for you, and you never know when things will just suddenly come together just right. I have had so many situations where I felt helpless and went "Oh, how is this going to work out?" and then suddenly it did--even better than I expected. I think the same thing will happen to you if you just hang in there. Best of luck, try not to stress too much!
