horrible thing coming out of her bottom

Thanks everyone.
Searching he ovaries route has been the most appropriate we think.
We decided not to prod poke or pull anything on the basis this was a natural thing and she didnt ook in any distress.
This morning the 'thing' has gone.
I have searched the coop and no sign of it being expelled.
There is a possibility that mice or rats have taken it away.
I hope thats what happened as I really do not like the idea its gone back inside!

I will keep you all informed.

Hello again,

Wow, Yesterday Morning (5 months after that thing came out) Daisy laid an egg!
She is about five years old now and looking very healthy.
This morning there was no egg but there was something a bit eggy in her bedding.
How unusual is it for a hen this old to start to lay again?
