Wow - you've got access to some really nice perches there! Chop it long, and you've got enough play-areas for a run for a queen!

Yep, seems like this is a GREAT opportunity to re-build/re-design the coop/run/shed configuration. Especially now that your shade and sun areas have changed! A couple weeks ago a young woman posted about loosing her coop to a tornado (in the coop/run design section of the forum). Perhaps you could post to her to see if her girls have had any difficulty laying.

Sorry about the garden loss. You might be surprised what survives - give it a chance. Our microburst last spring bent our tomato plants into very peculiar shapes - but the plants produced abundantly despite the odd shapes. Took some doing to stake 'em up off the ground - I ended up putting in 't' stakes and running wire with small sections of PVC pipe (the pipe would go under the stem and wire-tied together so the stem wouldn't get girdled). Worked well, took forever to do - but harvest was worth it! Did end up loosing a lot of pepper plants (smashed beyond recognition) and some corn plants (snapped in two). Most everything else seemed to survive.

Good luck with the clean-up. Some Father's Day activity, eh?

I soooo know what you mean. We are in upstate SC where that storm visited after it left your house, I think! (If it was the Wednesday night storm that brewed up that way)! We had fifteen or more trees down or broken. Some of them probably 60 - 70 ft. tall. One took out a bedroom window. Five were across our drive and downed power line. Soon as the lightning and thunder had passed enough for us to think it was safe, we were out in the rain -- my DH with the chainsaw and me pulling stuff to the side. The power crew arrived about midnight and started working down the drive to meet us. They didn't do much with their little chainsaw though.

We had power back on by 1:00.

Some of the worst damage in our area was from hail being blown sideways. We have holes in our siding and it looks like our neighbor who's house is out in the open had a firing squad open up on theirs. It moved their porch and turned the outside light fixtures (those little lanterns by the doors) upside down. It even "shot up" their inground pool liner underwater!!

Luckily, our chicks are still getting room service in the garage.

The cats were in hiding and the doghouse, the propane tank and the pool were missed.

I'm so glad your chickens made it through that. Mine were talking about the storm before it got here.

Good luck with your new coop, we're starting soon as we can get out from under this mess too. (I picked up this thread from your other one about the dog kennels)

Now, to go and decide which tree to start on first.

Hey riverscape1! Glad you made it through ok too. Unfortunately, I just saw we're under another severe thunderstorm warning starting now and going until 6pm tonight. Not that we haven't been through a bunch of storms here, but now we'll be on edge for each one I'm sure. Scary stuff.
