You think the mare that played Thowra and Belle Belle was an Arabian? Golden looks like an Arab.
Haven't watched the movie yet. It may be the one you're talking about. Whatever horse Emma posted a pic of.

The gray is an Andalusian.
I met him. He was at the equine vet up the road from us when I was a kid. I used to have a newspaper article clipped and taped on the book case with all my Breyer horses.
Ugh - insanely jealous.
Quick, name something popular from 20 years ago! Gentle reminder we aren't talking about the 90's. lol 😂
Lol! Gosh I can't believe that movie's been out that long.

I was talking about War Horse in that quote btw.

While we are talking about decent horse movies, I loved this particular version of Black Beauty.

And I remember reading My Friend Flicka and enjoyed it. The older movie was alright. But there was a sequel I remember enjoying when I was a kid...Thunderhead, Son of Flicka.

King of the Wind was also really good.

I really don't remember much. He was traveling and was just at the vet clinic. He was a pretty thing. A friend of mine and her husband founded Diamond D Ranch where they bred, trained, and raced Thoroughbreds.

She owned one of the Black Beautys, but I can't remember which one. He did all the stuff. The horse they'd picked ended up just doing the standing shots. The trainer reached out to her and was griping about him so she had him come out and try to put her horse through some of the scenes. Apparently, he worked out. lol

That thing in the right back hand corner behind the smaller guest ranch house is a squirrel cage. One of the ranch hands found a nest of squirrels in the barn and she bottle fed them. Her husband built that around a dead tree and they lived in there once they were weaned. It was huge. Very cool.

lol I totally thought you meant Hidalgo. lol

Lol no. Hidalgo has been out forever.

Haha! Your answer should have been because they are the superior color.

On the topic of the horse being described as creamy with a silver mane and tail, when I was much younger, my parents bred my mother's barrel racing mare, Blondy (My Princess Echo). I don't do horse genetics in the slightest, but she was a reddish-brown (bay, sorrel, chestnut?) with a creamy-gold mane and tail and a white blaze. The stud was a Palomino, The Final Glow. I don't remember him much except that he was 100% a stud and once she finally let him breed her, they were inseparable until his castration. He wore her shoe prints all over him for weeks. She was his last breeding. When Blondy foaled she was in the shade of a massive oak tree. I remember thinking the filly (The Glow's Final Echo) was white she was so bright in the shade. My parents laughed and said she was a palomino like the father. When she was under two or three weeks you could see her facial markings think it was a white star and a snip down by her muzzle. She had dark points. By the time she was weaned, you couldn't see the markings anymore she was so light. I'd have described her as silver unless she was on snow. She also had dark points like Thowra, also.

The Black Stallion was a really good series. I don't remember much about the movie. I think I read all of those for fun in the second grade, maybe? Possibly third. There was another series by the same author that dealt with a red stallion too.

Please tell me you've read Marguerite Henry's books?

These are why I've always wanted to attend Pony Penning Day and turn a little herd of the farts loose to let them live "wild" in a nice pasture with good food and a vet in the case of issues.

How have you never read these? I'm shook.

Are we ignoring the fact that all the wild horses are immaculately groomed? lol I've tried to see if they were shod, but I never notice.

BTW this is the bird he was named after.

I always think it's funny they describe him like, "He would never be as graceful as the bird he was named after. But he was an ugly, determined fighter." Like he's one of the prettiest horses in the film, even if he is cast as a villian (woman and kingdom stealer).

lol You think? I drive my friend's crazy watching horse movies with them. lol

Isn't that the movie with Hayden Panettiere and a zebra????

Yeah, it is. lol

I had a huge collection! I don't know where any of them are now. I was doing some Googling a few weeks ago and looked up some of mine. The collection I had would have been worth about $15,000 or more? I don't remember all of them. But the Brahma bull and Jersey cow and calf were about $1000 just by themselves.
Thats so cool! Yes I have read Marguerite Henry's books! I like them alot. My favorite is "The Little Fellow"! You actually met Secretariat in person?
My family has never owned horses, sadly. The closest we got is our mini donkeys, Ziggy and Maizie. Your horses sounded beautiful! I got over half of my breyers from my mom, which are pretty old. She even has the old breyer catalogs!

The "Album Of Horses" by Marguerite Henry is another one of my favorites. Even though it only has breeds and stuff, I loved it so much. Now I can't stop thinking of "The Little Fellow" I'm going to have to find it later today!
