I am at my WITS END already and they’ve only just started coming out!!!!!!!! This is gonna be a long summer. :th :lau

We are right on the marsh too so they are BAD!!!! Every time the dog is outside, he’s constantly itching and/or snapping at them and now they have been biting me too!!!!!!! And they HURT!!!!!

I don’t remember them being this bad last year. But I’ve also been wearing shorts more this year so IDK.

ANYWAYS, is there ANYTHING that works against them? I’ve read (and seem to recall from previously) that regular bug spray doesn’t really work? But then I’ve read it does so?

And I can’t use regular human bug spray on the dog obviously.

I mostly just want him to be comfortable. I don’t really care about myself. Well, I DO, but I mostly just feel SO bad that he’s constantly biting at himself every time he goes out on his long line or for a walk.

So anyways…

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!

My husband got bit walking from the car to the door. They are RELENTLESS!

This is going to sound stupid, but the only thing that works for us is insecticide-treated clothing. The company I use to treat our clothes actually make something for dogs!

Insect Shield for Pets

Permethrin is super safe once it's dry, and it will last through something like 70 washings. You can also buy permethrin spray for your own doggy accessories, but be sure to apply it outside, away from any animals, and wear gloves. You don't want to mess around with it while it's wet.

Oh wow that’s awesome!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!

Chickens, lots of chickens. Horse flies can be relentless. They breed in wet areas, ponds, marshes, and are attracted to dark colors. Since Brew is black that doesn't help.
I can’t have chickens here :hit and at the other house we weren’t on the marsh so we didn’t have like any LOL here we are pretty much directly on the marsh. And wait really!? I wore black shorts today. Maybe that’s why they were after me more today LOL

Go to the feed store and get the stinky traps they sell for horses. Usually it's a plastic jug you mix water and the bait into. Hang them around the edge of the yard and by areas of the house you're not always near (they smell like rotting meat).

Replace the water level as it evaporates, replace the bait once a month or so. Empty them when you replace the bait.
