Sorry to hear that about your horse.I'm no expert but I can tell you what has worked for me.I won't try to bandage it yet.I would use the cold water spray method first.Not only for cleaning but for pain as well.The water spray helps with blood flow and decreases swelling.It also feels good to a sore spot.I've tried it on my own stumped/cut feet.Put it in a stall/barn with clean hay/bedding and let it kinda dry.Spray with your choice of anti/fly/etc,. spray.You'll be surprised at how much your horse will like this.I've seen studs that weren't broke at all stand still and move into the waterhose to ease soreness.You can wrap a wound if need be,but try not to seal up germs in it.Call your vet and get a tetnus shot.A young horse will heal faster than an old one.I aways try to watch my horses to know what is normal for them.I have one that limps.He always has.Its normal for him.Watch for changes and don't wait before you check them out.Good luck and let us know how it does.
