I discovered my favorite "brush" many years into horse & pony ownership.
When I became fascinated w/ recycle & reuse, I used haystring to braided into many articles of tack. We had LOTS of haystring from the round hay bales we fed free choice.

Anywho, I had just replaced another scrub brush for one of the 100 gallon water tanks. So tired of replacing every few months when bristles fell out or handle broke.
I grabbed a knotted glob of haystring not yet washed & "tamale'd" for braiding. WOW! The green scum came right off the tank w/ o scrubbing like you had to do w/ a brush. HMMM... At that time I was braiding, but not crocheting. Enter the Boye plastic loom from Walmart.

So. Works great on water tanks & nasty feed buckets (we soaked feed, alfalfa cubes or pellets & beet pulp shreds for all ponies). Have one at every paddock or pen, by the water tanks or tubs.
One day, a brush bucket i was using was missing the curry comb & a nubby glove. Grrr... rather than walk a football fields length to find one in equipment room, I grabbed the "scubbie" off the post by the water tank. Again - WOW! I was able to use on both Koalah & Tory - both always unhappy when grooming heads. Worked a charm & the hair worked into layered matts that pulled right off when I took a break from currying, just like a rubber curry.
Flipped it over - used like a brush to get the loose hair off in sweeping motion.
If I could only have one brush, I'd have a loom woven, haystring scrubbie. It does it all except clean inside hooves.
Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of it in use.
