I think I'm going to go look at this horse later this week or weekend! I think she would be a good one for me to improve my riding on. I just get so worried about riding June since I'm still not very good, I don't want to mess up her training becuase I don't know what I'm doing. My grandpa said to just keep going with her, that he learned to ride on a horse that didn't know anything. But he's an old cowboy, things are different now.
Update on June, she's buddy sour AND barn sour now. I finally had some free time last night and I tried riding her and she was being stubborn. She was funny in the round pen, she threw up a little buck at first and then she kept jumping the spots where some weeds had grown up, but she was responding really well to me, but when I rode she kept trying to nip my toes, and she walked quickly down to the pasture, but then wouldn't go into the pasture, until Penelope went out there and then when I rode her back she wanted to trot back up. She also spooked at something, I'm pretty sure it was a snake but I'm not sure, it was almost dark, she cracks me up when she spooks, she doesn't melt down like some of the past horses I've had, just takes a leap sideways and looks at me like "please help me mom".
Anyways, I need to get some good riding time in on her, but it's hard with a new job and being 100 degrees out. And I think it'll be a year or more before I'm riding Penelope, she's still so skinny and she's gonna need lots of groundwork.
But I think a new horse would be helpful, I can improve and gain confidence, and I can pony June out in the field and force her away from Penelope and vice versa, without having to ride them for now. I'll still work on riding June out by herself though. And I'm gonna keep working on Liberty stuff when I have time.
Another update, my cousins boyfriend builds fence and he's coming down Wednesday to look at the farm I'll be living at to see what needs to be done and add to the fence that's out there, so I may have my own place for horses soon!
