Horse Talk

I got a saddle cover thing yesterday that I'm excited to try out, should make trotting much comfier for me, and finally got some new leather reins so I can stop using rope ones, the only leather ones I had before were split and I do not like spilt reins. Hopefully things go as smoothly today as they did at the end of yesterday

Yes I did! They are so cute! Unfortunately they were attacked by dogs the other day and one is a bit traumatized and hasn't been eating. I got her to eat a little grain today but she looks so skinny

Awe, sorry to hear this. :( It seems like you are getting good advice on your thread though so you're in good hands. :)

I rode June 3 miles today. On accident..

I started out simple, threw the saddle on her (with my new comfy but pad, ahh) and hopped on and walked over to the arena, did a perfect trotting lap one direction, then the other, then repeated twice more, and then I was going to ride just a ways down the creek and turn onto the roughed out driving part and go back up through the field, short and simple. But with me being terrible at paying attention and even worse at judging distance.. I missed my turn lol and don't ask me how I rode in a straight line in a creek bed and missed a cleared out drive through spot because I do not know. So I kept going thinking "I'm sure it's up here in just a few feet" and I told myself that too many times and I got to some unfamiliar territory so I google maps myself and I was way down the creek! So since it was further to turn back I just rode the rest of the way to the highway, and it met the farm road that turns on to mine (so I didn't have to ride on the highway thank goodness), but there was a FENCE across the creek, so I had to take down the fence, take June through it, and then put it back up. Then I rode up a kind of steep hill (which I surprisingly think is kind of fun? Lol) and onto the farm road and then I trotted allll the way down the road (about a mile) and she actually wanted to trot, I gave her a light cue (barely tapped) and she stayed in it all the way. Then I turned down my rode and walked home, but she didn't want to go down the lane to my house, probably because it looks like the creek and the rocks probably weren't that comfy on the footsies in the creek. But we made it! Our longest ride ever. It was awesome. And she was thiiiiirsty. Which brings me to my question, when you're trail riding how often do you make sure your horse gets a drink?
So here's what I meant to ride:
400

And what I actually rode:
400

That big red dot is the spot where I realized I had gone too far, so what I meant is I knew if I rode to the highway that would be less rock for June to have to walk on, than if I were to turn around, not less distance to my house, obviously lol. And the really long straight line furthest to the right in the second picture is the road I trotted all the way down.
So that was my day

Also might finally be getting a truck and horse trailer
