I did expect some weight loss, June for one was kinda on the chunky side, but I did not expect to see ribs and spines and complete loss of muscle on their necks. And I could understand a couple scrapes and cuts, since they're horses and horses pretty much seem to go out of their way to hurt themselves, but maybe a "hey, June got her mane caught in the fence and ripped a chunk out" message would have been nice. And she could have let me know they were dropping weight pretty quickly and asked if I wanted them fed more/something different.
I was totally blind sided though, expected my horses to still look like my horses, maybe without the winter weight but not like this.
Also, Indies routine hasn't really changed and he looks as bad as Reno, so it's obvious he's not getting fed.
But you are right about the guilty conscious, she apologized immediately and said she'd bring him back and pay their feed bill, etc. and she also went as far as to say that things have gotten really bad around her parents lately and she's going to report them to animal control herself if they don't change things.
So idk. I just want Indie back and then I want to spoil all my babies and never let them out of my sight again

What would be a good protection for my horse's legs when I ride through underbrush?
I am going to try Powerflex, would that work?

That's good she at least recognizes an issue and might report them! I hope she does cause they shouldn't suffer like that

But she also should have been over there every day checking them and feeding them and TRAINING. Especially if she knows they have been worse lately? And still left them over there?

How old is this girl/lady and her parents? Is it possible maybe they have altzheimers or something? That's the only reason I can think of for why they would knowingly starve animals

Obviously, Reno had his winter coat on him when the pic was taken, so it would fill him out a bit more, but his backbone is, if anything, in a slight depression. To have a horse in this condition go away for a month, and be returned to me looking like this would upset me, too.

Exactly! He looked pretty much perfect when he left, and now he looks like a rescue horse. June was a little fat when left, so she doesn't look as bad as Reno, but still definitely the most pitiful she's ever been. She looked better when she was a scrawny little 2 year old.
And poor Indie, he was a gangly scraggly 2 year old when I got him and I just got him looking SO good, and now he looks just as bad as Reno.
Also, another update, I talked to her some more earlier (still haven't got my signed bill of sale ) and she said she wasn't over there every day, but almost every day, and that they got hay and grain those days, but her parents were suppose to be letting them out to pasture and they weren't. Sooo, not sure how true that is, but it seems semi believable.
She also said if I was getting Indie back that she wanted me to pay for the training, and said she'd do half of what it would normally cost (so $250) but I told her I wasn't comfortable with that and that I'd give her $100 since I need to buy feed and biotin and stuff, and she agreed to that and still says she'll bring him on Sunday.

June's ears are laid back in the picture... TYPICAL.
