Horses... fencing... and deer

I am real sorry to hear about the deer problem your having & i do hope you get a hold on it. We have deer but not a problem like you have. I was just wondering if you have seen this deer fencing that i will post being used to fence my chickens & ducks. Its deer fencing we use to keep deer out of our crop/gardening. Its real tall(I'm no expert on this just thought i would ask. Good luck with getting them. When is hunting season? lol its hunting season for deer here in Cali. ~Julie~

I dunno I have a doe that comes every morning and hops the fence (no damamge to fencing) and she hangs out with my mare grazing and chasing each other until about 10 - 11 am and she lies under a tree and naps then they are back at it about 4pm

We have regular visitors, too. A family of 5--a buck, 2 does, and 2 babies. Our fences are not terribly high and there is a goodly amount of space between the strands. They pick their way through quite easily and I never have fences pulled down by them. My stallion paddocks are double fenced (a row of electric fencing, 10 feet of space, a row of electric fencing) and again, they walk right through them without getting zapped. Of course, it never occurred to me to try to fence them out entirely. I actually planned the spacing of the main fencing so they could step over the bottom wire and duck under the middle one (oh, and those 2 wires are not hot either).

Occasionally one of the babies gets left behind or something and I see it out with my stallion, who stands guard over it while it grazes and sleeps. Then the rest of the family shows up and off it scampers. I think he actually misses that baby when it goes!

Maybe your answer is to widen your spacing so they can walk through the fence instead of trying to jump it?
