Horses slaughtered in FL?

This is ridiculous. The police should get on this and figure out what's going on and start enforcing the laws.

I have no problem with people eating their horses. Sorry for those anti-horse meaters out there. The only reason I opposed the slaughter houses was they encouraged horse theft and they treated the horses inhumanely before slaughter.

What is going on in Florida is ridiculous. These should be investigated and culprits brought to justice. Not only was this horse stolen, but it was butchered and his meat most likely sold. These people didn't even have the decency to remove the remains from the owners property. They took what meat they could sell and left the clues to the horse's gruesome fate for his owners to find.

My DH thinks I am nuts but I have this phobia about someone stealing my horses. I have never had a real reason to have this phobia but after reading that news article you can bet my horses will be locked up at night for a while until I get over this!

Everytime someone stops at the dirt road to look at our horses I always take a mental description of them and even their tag # - this is why my DH thinks I am crazy. You can't even give horses away down here so he doesn't think someone would come take a horse when you can get one for basically nothing but you can't just get the bloodlines I have for nothing or the fact that my mare is what keeps me sane in this world! I will be showing my DH this clip!

Horse meat was eaten alot here in the USA a long time ago. Actually, one local meat store thats been here forever has a old big statue of a horse inside its store because they used to sell horse meat.

I think it's still a hangin offense in Idaho to steal a horse....

If I caught someone trying to steal mine, you can sure bet the firearms would come out!

I wouldn't be surprised if they get shot to death in Florida now that it is widely publicized.

Well any unwanted horse was used. Old, injured farm horses that could no longer pull a plow or carry a saddle. Mustangs that were raiding food supplies. Any horse that was not valuable in another manner was used for meat.

We had a mare that was going to require an expensive surgery with no guarantee she'd come off the table alive. Without the surgery she was slowly starving to death. So we came up with two options. One, adopt her out to someone who agreed to pay her vet bills and make her a pet or two, we would take her out back behind the barn, humanely kill and butcher her and bury the remains. Our dogs were on a raw diet at the time, so nothing would go to waste. Now don't string me up for my way of thinking. But the horse rescues and humane society are overrun with perfectly healthy horses that were neglected. We couldn't afford the payment or risk of surgery, especially on an 18 year old mare. And to me, euthanasia of such a large animal is a waste, especially when you have 3 dogs who are on a raw diet. Luckily, we found someone who made a perfect match for the mare and promised us to pay her vet bills. But the possibility of humanely killing and butchering her was not out of the question.

Pips, I dont think they hang people anymore but you certainly will have jail time or big fine to pay for stealing horses.

This is sad. I don't see how anyone period could eat a horse. Their big dogs, and I don't see how someone can eat a dog or cat. If I had a horse and was worried about this I would put cameras up around the propery and a electric fence and call police to at least drive by once every night. Dirty people like this need to hang and burn.

Umm, some cultures DO eat dogs and cats. Are you saying their culture is wrong?

Honestly, I don't have a problem with anyone eating any creature, so long as it's not MY creature.
