Horses slaughtered in FL?

This is not new - nor is it contained to certain parts of florida. In fact there was a TB stallion sent to a farm in Peru for the "southern hemisphere" season that was stolen and killed for "meat" just this weekend.

The stallion had been contracted to a TB farm there by it's owners in KY. The horse had been on the farm in Peru for a couple of days before it went missing and was subsequently found a few miles away butchered.

I too don't want the government telling me what to do, but there are so many dummies out there who ruin everything for us responsible folks...sad.

My three rescues include 2 club footed horses and one ex quarter horse race horse. One of the club footed horses I own is also severly turned out in the front like a ballet dancer...he was kept as a stud because the previous owner thought he was "pretty". My blood is boiling now when I type this!!!!

But still, if some idiot tried to steal one of my misfits for "slaughter" or ritual or what ever I'd get a gun!! (And I hate guns!)

But they are stealing people's horses. That can never be right. It isn't right to steal your neighbor's horse to feed your family, I am sorry.

Horse slaughter is something very very close to my heart. I have spent a great deal of money and time on rescues and rehoming horses. I veered of into horse slaughter because if you have ever been inside a horse slaughter plant you would freak out and it is something that you would then want to speak out about but I certainly don't mind anyone killing their own horses for food at all and I think it should be illegal for anyone to tell you that you can't kill anything you own, even a dog or cat, as long as you have intentions of using the animal. There are so many that gasp when they think of eating a horse but a horse is just like any other animal...put here for our use and companionship. That is why I went off into that...if you want to eat a horse then you have every right to IMO as long as it is in a legal manner.

Believe it or not there is not that many who just breed for a color. Most people use their horses for something or another and breed them to obtain the best possible ability from their foal for their sport or ranch use. Most like to factor that in to get a desired result. I have never bred for color, we bred for performance ability in horses and color is a nice thing to be able to figure in when you are searching for a stud to breed your mare to because if you aren't happy with the foal born you won't keep it....and those horses end up on the chopping block most of the time. I quit breeding horses due to so many needing to be trained to be rehomed or else they would end up being shipped to slaughter. It is not a huge expense to keep horses. That is such a misconception. The expense factors in when you are showing/competing them but just to have a pasture pet is not expensive or time consuming at all. Good grass managment will help tremendously....and learning how to upkeep your horse yourself.

My ex quarter horse racer is drop dead georgous! She is a mare and sooo many people urged me to breed her. As much as I would love to have one of her foals, because she is an awesome horse, I refuse to EVER breed a horse. If I need another one, I adopt a rescue...same as with dogs and kitties etc.

I agree with Chicks n Horses...I lived in TX and saw first hand the slaughtering plants.

Like I said, I'm not against humanly slaughtering horses or any animal, but those plants were not humane.
