Here's Princess Isis' leg today:

Healing well, no stitches have failed, just maybe some proud flesh forming around the lower margins. Still mostly an angel for her bandage changes, except today it was warm and gnats were bothering her. So she was stomping around at flies, as I tried to hold on the the sterile gauze pads on her leg and prevent her from flinging them to the ground and becoming not sterile!
I wish the vet was due to see her sooner. They're due the 21st, and both Princess and I are becoming impatient. And I'm running out of all these expensive supplies:
Layer 1: sterile gauze pads soaked in sterile saline. Layer 2: sterile non-stick pads. Layer 3: stretchy white gauze roll to hold on all of the above. Layer 4: Clean pillow wrap (I have 3 and get creative about finding other laundry to accompany them - Mr. Dog is happy to find so many clean towels recently, lol.) Layer 5: brown non-stretchy gauze, to hold everything together, tight but not too tight. Layer 6: Vet wrap - the fun part. Layer 7: Bandage tape top and bottom, to seal everything in and prevent dirt getting in from above or below, as well as prevent everything from slipping down.
Look at her poor hooves! She was due for the farrier last week, but I had to put him off since she's not supposed to bend her knee that much.
Both she and I are loving the nice weather we've having, but wishing we could be going out and about with our friends - me to different shows and clinics, her out in the pasture with her "sister" mares.

there was a 17 year old gelding not too far from us and it said he was a nice step up horse but he was blind in one eye and they wanted like $9,000 for him. if he wasn't so much then we would have gone to look at him but $9,000 is way more then we want to spend on a horse

That's an insane price for a one-eyed horse, no matter the age and experience.

People in my area are asking unbelievable prices for horses, like five figures for 18-22 year old experienced children's hunters. I can't help but think, hasn't that horse done enough yet? They've probably taught many kids and won medals for most of them - gotten hock injections and who knows what, to keep them going - will they ever land in a caring home that allows them to step down?

The other day I saw an ad for a mare comparable to my dear Princess Isis. Same breed, related bloodlines, same color and size, only 4 years younger (still a senior, 23 instead of 27) achieved advanced Dressage in her past, but no longer able to perform at that high level today. And couldn't jump or trail ride, needed complicated maintenance to keep her sound.
Really nice mare, perfect schoolmaster for someone who wanted to learn Dressage from a pro and get their bronze medal. But the price they were asking was 35 times what I paid for my girl. Crazy!
