Horses!!!!!!!!

How many of the people on this thread don't keep their horses stabled in the winter? I know that laminitis is most prominent in the spring from people letting their horses loose on lush grass, but if the horse was in the fields all winter, wouldn't it be introduced to the new grass slowly and naturally?
Some times I lock mine up at night in the winter but not usually.

this sounds horrible, but my horse has never had any kind of run in/stable in his life, and he is 18. He has also never worn a blanket, shoes or foundered, and he was in a twenty+ acre pasture. he just stood under the pine trees when it rained hard. He never had rain rot, thrush, anything.

wow... Well, if you think about it, that's how feral horses live, and they are fine... Thanks for all the comments!

He must look really good!
he is not the prettiest horse in the barn, but he is one of the healthiest, lol.

sounds like a happy, and healthy horse!!
thx! And if anyone on here has barefoot horses, do you ever have people tll you it's animal cruelty to not shoe them? A lady told me this once, as her horse was being treated for hoof and leg issues.

Only one of my horses get shoed and it is only in her two front hoofs. She has to be shoed because her feet are very delicate so when I work her hard ( when is do cutting reining shows ect.) Her hoofs will chip. But all my others are not shoed. ( we have 8 horses on the property 4 of them are mine the rest are my aunts)

I don't plan to shoe my horse, I really don't see the point if your horse is healthy, and not under undue stress.

My horses have been barefoot all their lives (one is 23, one is 9). I have people tell me that I'm stupid to not have them shod, but I haven't had any problems. They get the wild mustang trim and their feet are as hard as rocks. No need for shoes imo
