Horses!!!!!!!!

Tr
Oh and FYI. It looks like or sound like ur chicken coop might be inside ur pasture? I read somewhere (and don't know how true it is but it makes sense) that if your coop/run is near ur horses or dogs not to let the chicken poop finds its way with on reach of the horses/ dogs it can make them sick!!! Just a friendly dude note

I'm sure ur are already aware!

The jury is rather split on that issue, mostly due to the sheer volume of feces that would have to be ingested to pose any sort of serious risk to a horse - and it's definitely never a bad idea to mention such concerns.  That being said, *I* personally have never had an issue of any sort from co-keeping chickens and horses - nor has anyone I've known personally, in fact most "fact sheets" etc you'll find are full of the pros of co-keeping vs any cons.    To me, it's another of those judgment calls that is made for each person and their animals.

ETA - the major concern from a safety stand point is keeping poultry feed out of the mouths of horses.

True that... Yea as u said Idk for sure it was just something I read. My horses are kept out if reach from my horses but the coop and run at my dads house is in his pasture and everybody is healthy and happy! Post pics if your coop and run when ur done!

Does anyone know of a horse safe way to get rid of buttercups in your horse pasture that won't hurt your horses. I can not move my horses to another pasture b/c I don't have another one and I don't have anyway of deciding off my pasture either.
I was thinking about spraying round up but I have seen my horses nose around d d eat the little grass between the buttercups so round up is not a good idea either.
Any advise appreciated!

But seriously I have some buttercups in the pasture and while I do pull them up or dig them when I've got time I've never seen the horses eat them. If they have lots of grass and hay they won't bother the noxious weeds.

Buttercups are on the list of plants toxic to horses, though I've heard they are more of an irritant rather than a deadly danger. Most horses won't eat them unless there really isn't anything else.

It would probably be a good idea to check with your county extension service to find out which chemicals can safely be sprayed on pastures in your area. There are varying degrees of effectiveness, and you want to be mindful of the type of grass you are spraying over. Some weed killers may control your pasture grasses, too (Roundup is a broad-spectrum herbicide; it will kill just about any plant that hasn't been engineered for resistance).

Yea I don't have good grass for them to eat on all the time. I have a smaller fenced in area they can graze on when I'm home. But there pasture (yes I know I need to reseed but haven't been able too) is dirt and buttercups.
I feed my horses on a round bale of hay that they can eat in all day and then they are stalled at night with there stradegy. But my hay man ran out of round bales so until he does a cut (hopefully here very soon) my horses are on square bales. I feed them 3 times a day to keep them busy and full but sometime they still go graze around in the buttercups switch makes me do nervous. I go watch them and they don't seem to be eatting them just the grass between but I still don't like it. I'm just praying for round bales again soon!!!! Also I pull a few everyday!!!

Thank you I will look into that. Snd I don't have grass I. The area where I have a buttercup problem so the weed killer csn kill anything near or around the cups. Thanks for the advise!

Sounds like a plan. Feed hay as you can, pull up buttercups as many as you can manage, and trust horses' smarts not to eat stuff that's bad for them.

Thanks
